PIERCING AFTERCARE GUIDE

IMPORTANT: Redness and swelling are normal. You may also have some bleeding. Bleeding can happen for several reasons. Naturally, puncturing the skin will cause bleeding; however, dehydration, certain medications, and low or high blood sugar can all affect how much blood is present during the piercing. White and yellow "crusties" are also normal. This is your body reacting and trying to heal an open wound.

CAUSE FOR CONCERN: Any sight of grey or green could be a sign of infection. If you think this is the case, contact us, your doctor, or the closest ER immediately. The majority of the time, it's not infected, but the skin is "angry" or "upset" and just needs a little extra care.

AFTERCARE:

  • Do not submerge your new piercing in water; this includes but is not limited to, lakes, rivers, swamps, pools, ponds, and hot tubs. Showering as you usually do is okay.

  • Keep animal fur and dander out of the fresh piercing. Be aware of your surroundings and be cautious with the area that is freshly pierced.

  • Avoid touching your piercing. If you need to touch it, ensure your hands are clean and double-check your ends (i.e. check the balls on the end of the jewelry). Treat your new piercing like you would stitches - keep it clean and try not to touch it.

  • Clean 2-3x a day with a saline solution. You can also make your own by combining 1 tsp of non-iodized salt with 2 ounces of water. Ask your piercer for local aftercare products.

OTHER NOTES:

  • Healing times will vary with each piercing. Your piercer will go over the timeframe for healing as well as jewelry transfers.

  • Do not use Q-Tips, paper towels, alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide on the piercing.

  • Always feel free to give us a call with questions or concerns about your piercing!
